HANNAH SULLIVAN'S
For our third shooting assignment, I was originally going to shoot motion at an event but my camera had died, so I had to come up with something new. I have a lot of little plants and random objects around my room so I figured macro was suiting. f/5.6 1/60 ISO 800

For this assignment, we were to go take pictures in 5 different locations and then photoshop them into five different panoramic photos. This process involved overlapping the photos when taking them, learning and properly using a tripod, and using the photomerge tool in photoshop. Here are my attempts: I think the most difficult part of this assignment was simply finding spots to shoot. It was a busy week at our school so we were not allowed to shoot in certain places. Along with that, for panoramic shots you need a somewhat wide, open area for it to turn out okay. I really liked working with the overlapping when we went to photograph and seeing how they turned out after putting them in photoshop. Unlike my inspiration post said, I actually decided to do still life this weekend. I have a few little knickknacks in my room that ended up making some good pictures! I was a little crunched for time because I had a busy weekend but overall I am very happy with the result. Here is my best photo: f/5.6 1/100 ISO 1000 I really liked taking pictures of these blocks because they image inside caused really cool reflections which added to a cool photo. In this assignment I practiced with manual and various modes and learned a lot. I tried many different subjects and learned that photos won't always come out as you imagined. I tried to take pictures of the pool lights in my pool, but they didn't turn out nearly as I expected. This made me realize I definitely need more experience with the camera to fully achieve the photos I would like.
For the next upcoming shooting assignment, I think I will do Motion. I have a big horse competition this weekend, so there will be lots of motion to capture. I am fairly familiar with shutter speed and taking motion photos at this point so I'm excited to see how they turn out!
Here are some links to some photos for inspiration: Lumineer Photography (this website is actually the photographer that comes to all of the equestrian events) Liz Crawley Photography Marcus Greene These are all popular eventing photographers that capture events extremely well! I am hoping to achieve similar photos when I go to take some. For this assignment, we were given a photo of a car and we were asked to retouch it. We had to crop, use the clone tool, use selection tools, levels, and layers to adjust the image. After this one we were to make another of our choice, so I decided to make it blue. This assignment has given me a much better understanding of photoshop. I now know how to select items and recolor things. I also now know how to use the clone stamp tool. I still have a lot to work on, but I understand much better now!
This was our first weekly photo assignment for the year. We had to take a picture of the topic of our choice. I choice animal, and specifically took pictures of horses because it's what I know best. f/4.0 1/250 ISO 100 I really like this photo because of the framing I used. The way the fence frame the image and then the horse's nose breaks it looks nice.
For this assignment we are to make two pop art pieces. The first one being a picture of ourselves and the second of our choice. We used photoshop to adjust the photo in cropping, color, and quality (we made them more grainy). Here is the original photo I used Here is the final result Here is my second attempt, doing it of my friend, Aubrey. What I LearnedThis assignment has given me a much better understanding of photoshop and how to use it. I now know how to properly crop my pictures, adjust the hues and saturation, and I also am starting to grasp how to combine layers to create a new picture.
Shutter Speed1.0 Sec 0.4 Sec 0.06 Sec (1/15) 0.016 Sec (1/60) You can see how the motion blur is very intense in the first picture at 1.0 second compared to the last picture where it is minimum at 0.016 second. Aperturef/20 f/10 f/5 f/3.5 The first photo at f/20 has a very large depth of field, resulting in a crisp photo the entire way through. Compared to the last photo at f/3.5 with a much more shallow depth of field resulting in the focal point, the flower, being the only thing in focus. QuestionsQ: A fast shutter speed does what to an image?
A: A faster shutter speed causes the action to freeze and lets less light into the image. Q: A slow shutter speed causes what effect on an image? A: A slower shutter speed results in motion blur in photos, which can be used to show movement. It also lets more light into the image raising the exposure level. Q: A LARGE aperture (size wide open) causes what effect on an image? A: A larger aperture lets more light into a photo, which can become too much light. Also results in a shorter depth of field. Q: A SMALL aperture causes what effect on an image? A: A smaller aperture does not let as much light in, resulting in darker photos. Also results in a longer depth of field. This upcoming weekend I will possibly be attending a horse competition. If I do go, I will definitely fulfill my "Animal" category for the assignment. I will bring my sister's camera so I can get some good action shots. I am hoping this will help me become more familiar with using different shutter speeds in my photos. If I cannot attend the competition, I will take pictures of my dogs. Both of these sites show good examples because they each show the same subject with different perspectives and elements in them. Hopefully I will be able to recreate some that are similar.
This assignment was to take a picture for each of the following aspects of composition. This demonstrates how composition can be applied to create better photos. BalanceThe line of backpacks underneath the mural creates balance within the photo. ColorThe bright yellow paddle on the blue table. Depth of FieldDewy spider web on the bike rack in the parking lot. FramingErin sitting in a food stand (?) LinesLines of hallway leading to Erin. PatternsHallway with club flags along the sides. PerspectiveWorms eye view of grate in the courtyard. Rule of ThirdsIsabella taking a picture in front of the mural. SpaceSaline High School on a cloudy morning. SymmetryBand hallway at the school. TextureOutside brick wall of the school. From this assignment, I have learned how I can set up my photos better so that they are more appealing to the eye. Taught me the key components of photography.
